Nicole Beland is a multidisciplinary artist living in the Province of Quebec, Canada. She has had two shows in professional art galleries in Montreal, in the last two years, and is presently searching for opportunities to show her work outside of Quebec. As all students who contend to a higher education, Nicole was forced to choose between Science or Humanities in her teenage years. The pragmatic side of her personality led her to choose science over art. After studying Art History for a year, she completed a Bachelor’s degree in Geology to work as an environmental consultant for various engineering firms for twelve years. In her professional practice, she discovered she should not cut herself off from a deep interest in literature, art, and philosophy, only to profit a scientific career geared towards materialism. Today, she brings a scientific sensibility to her aesthetic research. By doing so, she hopes to bridge the gap between two disciplines that have been arbitrarily split. She wishes to contribute to enrich our views of the world that are often lob-sided or over-simplified because of this dichotomous model. Nicole is presently working on publishing an art book that will combine the many mediums she uses: photography, drawing, painting, digital imaging, and creative writing. It is entitled Art is Oxygen and is an artist's guide to recognizing the personal myths that help shape our identity. |
